Artist Statement

My fate as an being artist was decided when I started when I picked up a How to Draw Book at the tender age of 13. My destiny to be in concept art and visual development followed that over a decade later, after finding art books from games and media I have always loved, sequestered away, worn in and fragile, in my city's library. I loved looking at early designs for everything, both the rejects and the successes, the processes for pieces, and the mind frame behind all of them. It was that in between process that really interested me, the initial versus what made it to the final draft versions of characters, landscapes, props, and everything in between. I longed to do that.

Every book featuring concept and design made a lasting impact on my process for work. I learned what I valued most in the art I produces was originality and uniqueness. A brand new look to something old, or an entirely original idea all together.

My standard method for the creation of most of my visual development work surrounds gathering a large body of references and lots of research. I make sure that I understand what exactly I need to be drawing and how it will work. I want to have that knowledge so that should I need to tap into it again, that font of information is already with me. Depending on if the work is for personal gain or commercial, my style can also change, seeing as I depend on fluidity to grow. I can change between rendering solely with gray scale, or I can with color each with their own pros and cons. I use this flexibility to my advantage and allow my work to change in ways it needs to while still staying to to my skills with my goal to be as useful and beneficial as possible.
